Coach Jai (James Ideson), PGA of Canada I've loved this game for as long as I can remember, and I've always tried to play it with the same blend of grace and grit that made Bobby Jones and Fred Couples my all-time favorites.
Golf has taken me on a pretty wild ride - one that I'm grateful for every single day.
Point Grey was my home course growing up and has always felt like home. I was the Junior Club Champion three years in a row (1994-96) and the Men's Club Champion in 1997. Those years shaped not just my game, but my love for the community and camaraderie that make golf special.
As a junior golfer, I had the honor of representing the Junior Hogan Team, with a record of 8-0 in match play. Our matches were held in Monterey at some of the most iconic courses in the world Pebble Beach, Spyglass Hill, Spanish Bay, and others - which made the experience even more unforgettable. That early momentum carried me into Collegiate Golf, attending Christian Brothers University in Memphis, Tennessee, where I earned 8 NCAA wins and learned just how much joy (and humility) this game can deliver.
After graduating from the university, I joined the Touring Pro circuit, playing on mini-tours, including the Hooters Tour, collecting stories, friendships, and a few low numbers along the way.
My personal best is 61 (twice), with a competitive low of 64. I've also had 16 hole-in-ones and one double eagle, though I'm convinced the golf gods gave me those early so they could keep me humble later.
I still compete in some Pro-Am events, but my passion now is in coaching. Helping players of all levels find their swing, their confidence, and their own version of joy in this game. Whether you're chasing your first par or your personal best, I'm here to help you get there with patience, curiosity, and a genuine love for the process.
Jai isn’t just a coach; he’s a proven winner. With 8 NCAA wins and experience on the Touring Pro circuit (including the Hooters Tour), he understands the pressure of elite competition and how to navigate it.
With a personal best of 61 (twice) and a competitive low of 64, Jai knows exactly what it takes to go deep. He can teach players the scoring mindset required to turn a good round into a career-best performance.
His perfect 8-0 record on the Junior Hogan Team demonstrates a mastery of match-play strategy. He can help golfers develop the tactical "grit" needed to win head-to-head matches, not just card a score.
As a member of the PGA of Canada, Jai provides instruction backed by the highest standards of professional golf education and certification.
Having competed at iconic venues like Pebble Beach and Spyglass Hill, Jai has seen how the world’s best courses are designed to test a player. He can offer unique insights into course management and shot selection.
Jai models his game after legends Bobby Jones and Fred Couples. Students benefit from a coaching style that balances technical "grace" (tempo and swing aesthetics) with mental "grit" (resilience and toughness).
Success as a three-time Junior Club Champion and a Men’s Club Champion at Point Grey shows he understands the "home course" grind. He knows how to help members shave strokes off their handicaps in a club environment.
You don't record 16 hole-in-ones and a double eagle by accident. Jai understands the "physics of the fortunate"—how putting yourself in the right position consistently leads to extraordinary results.
Jai emphasizes finding "joy and humility" in golf. He doesn't just fix a slice; he helps players find their own version of confidence and passion for the process, making the game more sustainable and fun.
Whether you are chasing your first par or your personal best, Jai’s coaching is rooted in patience and curiosity. He adapts his deep technical knowledge to meet the specific goals of the individual player.
