Frequently Asked questions

Everything you need to know before getting started with our structured training programs.

1. What is the first step to get started?

Every athlete begins with an assessment. This allows us to understand current skill level, goals, and recommend the right training pathway.

2. Are there any age restrictions for enrolling in your golf training programs?

We teach all ages from 4 years old to 100.

3. I am a brand-new golfer. What levels does Zone Golf Academy teach?

At our academy, every golfer has a home. We’ve coached everyone from total newbies to high-level competitors, consistently delivering winning results across the board. Our diverse coaching staff specialize in all areas of golf, including intensive On-Course Adult Class and high-energy Junior-Junior sessions for the little ones (ages 4-8).

4. Do I need my own golf clubs?

Please bring your own golf clubs to class. However if you don’t have clubs, don’t worry, we have golf clubs for all heights. Prior to your lesson, at least 24 hours, please provide your height and if you play left or right-handed.

5. Where do you teach?

We primarily teach at 3 facilities:

Indoor facility: 12011 Riverside Way, Unit #130, Richmond, BC.

Richmond Driving Range: 4880 No 6 Road, Richmond BC

Mylora Golf Course: 9911 Sidaway Road, Richmond, BC

We also have arrangements with other Golf Courses and Indoor facilities, where we may hold special events, or use as-needed on a case-by-case basis.

6. Do you offer Travel Camps Away? Such as to the USA?

Our signature away golf camps—an academy tradition since 1988. Our Las Vegas camps offer the perfect blend of serious training and unbeatable atmosphere. We cater to every goal: helping competitive juniors sharpen their skills in the Nevada sun or providing personalized coaching for a memorable group trip for a milestone celebration. Whatever your reason for travel, our coaches are there to ensure you play your best golf while enjoying every minute.

7. What should I wear/bring to golf class?

We want you to be comfortable while you work on your game! Please wear attire that allows for easy movement and choose supportive footwear like running, tennis, or golf shoes. For safety reasons, we ask that you leave the clogs and flip-flops at home. Since golf requires plenty of focus and stamina, please bring a water bottle to stay hydrated. If you’re training with us for a longer session (2+ hours), we also recommend packing a healthy snack to stay fueled.

8. Do you offer Birthday Parties?

Yes, they can be arranged.

9. What is your Coaching Philosophy?

Since 1987, we have remained steadfast in our commitment to the game and its timeless virtues. Our history is defined by a relentless pursuit of excellence—one that transcends simple mechanics. At our core, we do not just refine technical skills; we cultivate the passion, integrity, and sportsmanship that define a true golfer.

Our coaching approach has yielded remarkable success stories. We don't just coach "perfect swings"—we build better athletes.  “We Teach Golf; Others Teach Swing” motto is something we live by every day.

10. What is the Golf Tier System Online Curriculum?

We believe every golfer deserves a structured path to improvement, which is why Zone Golf Academy uses the Golf Tier System (GTS). For more than four decades, the GTS curriculum has served as a gold-standard blueprint for success, helping golfers of all levels elevate their game. By combining this historic, winning methodology with our expert coaching, we provide a clear and effective route to reaching your personal goals.

11. Do you teach Group Classes or 1-on-1?

We provide a versatile range of training options designed for every golfer. Our schedule includes intimate small group sessions like our Monday classes at Mylora, as well as one-hour "Quick Fix" clinics for targeted skill building. For a holistic approach, join our 3-hour drop-in clinics that blend golf coaching with yoga and Pilates. We also offer elite, long-term development through APEX, our immersive 1-to-1 annual program specifically crafted for competitive juniors aiming for collegiate play or professional Tour careers.

12. Do you have Modern Technology?

We utilize the latest state-of-the-art technologies, including Foresight and Bushnell launch monitors, Quintic precision putting system, and Trackman launch monitor as-needed, as supplemental tools to teach and measure progress, to ultimately improve the golfers' game on the course, where the real game begins and counts. Playing on the golf course offer challenges beyond any that a simulated environment or range practice can provide. A key element of our technology stack is a private and secure cloud space that each student is assigned to communicate with their Coaches, receive their assignments, store their pictures, video assessments, and stats, to monitor their progress. For junior golfers, parents are members of the space and can monitor their progress, as well communicate with their child's Coaches. With our high-performance programs, in addition to the assigned primary Coach overseeing the student's in-person coaching and progression, a Master Coach is assigned to collaborate with the team.

13. How often should I practice?

Great golfers are made in the hours between lessons. As a baseline, one hour of weekly instruction should be paired with at least one solo session at the range. Our Discover Golf juniors stay sharp with a weekly regimen of one hour of range work and one hour of short game, including three 15-minute evening putting drills at home. Meanwhile, our elite STAR and APEX athletes receive dedicated practice plans, with the expectation of at least five hours of supplemental training per week to achieve peak competitive form.

14. How quickly can I improve?

Our students consistently achieve remarkable breakthroughs. For instance, Rachel dropped her handicap from a 10 to a 3 in just 12 weeks and shot a 65 in competition after only six months with our academy. We tailor our approach to fit your specific motivations and time availability, but our primary focus remains the same: perfecting your fundamentals to ensure your path to a lower score is as fast as possible.

15. Do you offer Spring, Summer, or Winter Break Camps? How about Pro D Days?

We offer seasonal camps throughout the year, including Spring, Summer, and Winter breaks. Beyond our seasonal programs, we frequently host specialized one-day camps for juniors, such as our popular Family Day events. Our curriculum is tailored to every skill level: we provide structured foundational training for new and novice players, while our intermediate camps focus on real-world experience with dedicated time on the golf course.

16. Cancellation Policy

To ensure we can accommodate all our students, Zone Golf Academy requires at least 24 hours' notice for any class cancellations. Please note that any cancellations made within the 24-hour window prior to your scheduled start time will be marked as a missed class.
